FAQ:

What is the difference between a DVD and Blu-ray transfer?
A DVD holds 2-4 hours and a Blu-ray holds 10-20 hours (about 5 times more content than DVD) The end quality will be the same on both types of discs which will be the quality
of your SD (standard definition). Note that Blu-ray requires a Blu-ray player but a DVD will play on both a Blu-ray and a DVD player. Some of our customers that had large amount of tapes used the Blu-ray format which required only about 20% of the DVD's that would be required. (i.e. 100 2 hr. VHS tapes = 200 hrs. = about 50 DVD's or about 10 Blu-rays)

How long does it take?
Usually 3-8 working days depending on how many tapes you have and our work load.

What if the videotape breaks?
tape splicing (if tape breaks) 5.00
if cassette is broken & needs replacing 8.00 ea.

Can I have my transfer put on a hard drive or in another format?
We can transfer your videos directly to a hard drive and/or DVD/Blu-ray. Typically you would provide us an external hard drive large enough (allow 2.5 GB per hour of video) for the transfer and then you could later transfer the files to the main hard drive on your PC. We recommend also making a DVD or Blu-ray for back up. Note that all forms of storage have pros & cons (hard drives can go bad anytime & discs can be scratched or lost, etc.) Having files backed up 2 different methods and in 2 different locations is the safest way of storage for irrreplaceable files.

How can I have my tapes transferred in order if I don't have a vcr to preview them?
You can now preview a part of each of your videotapes online and choose the order they will appear on your DVDs or Blu-rays using our newly developed Online Videotape Sorter™ that we have invented to help people sort their tapes before transfer. This is perfect if you don’t have a vcr or your videotapes don’t have labels and you would like to watch a part of each of your tapes. Visit OnlineVideotapeSorter.com for more info and to view a sample.

FAQ:
How do I estimate how much film I have?

A 3 inch 8mm diameter reel is 50 feet. Many people spliced their film onto larger reels. Common large reels are 5 inch 8mm diameter holding 200 feet and 7 inch 8mm diameter reel holding 400 feet of film. 16mm films will have the length engraved on the metal reel.

Do you transfer sound film and what about miusic background?
Yes we transfer super 8 sound film. The sound will be transfered also to the DVD at no extra charge. We do not transfer regular 8mm sound film (this type is very rare). We add an easy listening instrumental music background to silent standard 8 and silent super 8 at no extra charge (
important info & hear sample) Of course standard 16mm optical sound will have the sound transferred.

How long does it take?
Usually 1-2 weeks depending on how many films you have and our work load. We will contact you when your job is completed for payment and pickup or shipping.

How much film fits on a DVD?
approximately 34-40 50 foot 8mm reels (1750' to 2000') or about 2 hrs. per DVD.

Can I have my transfer put on a hard drive or in another format?
We can put yoiur transfer directly to a hard drive and/or DVD. Please contact us if you would like more info. Typically you would provide us an external hard drive large enough (allow 2.5 GB per hour of video) for the transfer and then you could later transfer the files to the main hard drive on your PC. We recommend also making a DVD for back up. Note that all forms of storage have pros & cons (HD's can go bad anytime & discs can be scratched or lost, etc.) Having files backed up 2 different methods and in 2 different locations is the safest way of storage for important files. Note also you can put your transfer on your computer HD since the
video files are MPEG2 with file extension .VOB and also are editable with many common video editing programs. Once copied onto your computer HD, open up the file directories until you see files "VTS_01_1.VOB", "VTS_01_2.VOB", "VTS_01_3.VOB" etc.(see note below) Those are REELS 1, 2 & 3 respectively. You may rename those files any name you like with mpeg2 file extensions, such as .mpg, .mpeg. Then you should be able to load them into any video editing software that can handle mpeg2 files.
(if you choose to add music to your transfer there will only be one VTS_01_1 file)

Will my films be returned?
Yes everything will be returned. Also note that we keep a master DVD(s) on file should you ever need copies-which are only $7.50 each.

We can scan from a small wallet (or even smaller) to 8.5x11 maximum.
